Antigua
Say "Antigua" and people in the know respond, "beautiful beaches!" That's because there are a reputed 366, all lovely. But that's only the beginning. Antigua's special Caribbean charm, its enormous range of activities, and the lazy pace make this pretty island an ideal tropical destination in every respect.

Beaches, Beaches, Beaches
A beach for every day of the year, with one left over, say Antiguans. You'll definitely find one you like, whether your taste runs to quiet coves, breezy windsurfing waters, or lively sports scenes.

Sports & Activities Galore
Resorts on Antigua are your base for sailing, windsurfing, deep-sea fishing and diving. Most have tennis, too. Sandals Antigua Resort and Spa is located in northwestern Dickenson Bay, which offers the widest variety of sports and activities on the island. Golfers will enjoy Jolly Harbour Villas, with its recently upgraded Karl Litton championship course.

Great Shopping
St. John's, the capital and main town, is also the premier shopping destination. Shops and restaurants at Redcliffe Quay are set around courtyards. For duty-free shopping, visit Heritage Quay. You can also do well in shops located in English Harbour and dotted around the island. Best buys include perfume, liquor, emeralds, jewelry, china and crystal.

Dining, Dancing & Casinos
You'll find plenty of dining choices, from excellent white tablecloth establishments to casual beach grills. Check out the entertainment at the resorts, including steel bands, calypso singers and limbo dancers. Both St. John's and English Harbour have high-spirited dance clubs. Feeling lucky? Antigua has four casinos.

What to Wear
As you prepare and pack for your exciting trip to sunny, tropical Antigua, we have a suggestion that should help you enjoy the most out of your vacation. Obviously, the beautiful warm weather of Antigua will give you plenty of opportunities to wear your summer clothing and beach wear. Dress throughout the island is casual. In the evening, however, many restaurants, including hotel a la carte and buffet restaurants, require that men wear long pants and a collared shirt and dress shoes (no open toe shoes), with comparable attire for women (no open toe shoes). Some of the finer restaurants may require a jacket and tie, with similar attire for women, and occasionally a restaurant that may have had a casual dress code may change it without notice. It is always a good idea to pack some clothing that will allow you to enjoy dinner at one of Antigua's finer restaurants, even if now you think you will not need it.
